Brand Positioning & Messaging Case Study — FirstLight Home Care

Launching a clinical care brand inside a trusted home care franchise

How it started

A home care brand with a clinical future

FirstLight Home Care built its name on companionship, personal care, and the relationships between caregivers and the families they serve. Since 2009, that idea has grown into a national franchise network.

The next chapter was clinical. FirstLight was launching FirstLight Home Health Care Services™, a new brand tier that lets licensed franchise owners offer nursing, therapy, and other clinical care at home.

The new brand had a lot to balance. It needed to sound credible to the discharge planners and case managers who refer patients, and warm enough for families facing hard decisions. It had to live inside the parent brand without blurring into it or reading as an add-on. And it had to work for franchise owners, not all of whom can offer clinical services under their state’s licensing rules.

FirstLight brought us in to build the strategic and creative foundation for the launch.

What we did

From first interview to final asset

We led a phased engagement:

  • Discovery & Research: Reviewed FirstLight’s brand and program materials, interviewed leadership and franchise owners, and analyzed the competitive landscape to find where a new home health care brand could stand apart.

  • Positioning: Developed the brand narrative, positioning statement, and core value proposition, then refined them in a working session with FirstLight leadership.

  • Messaging Architecture: Built three messaging pillars with tailored messages for families, referral sources, and franchise owners, plus language-to-use and language-to-avoid guidance for each audience.

  • Brand Toolkit: Created a supplemental section of FirstLight’s brand guide covering the new brand’s messaging and visual elements, and how it sits alongside the parent brand.

  • Launch Assets: Wrote and designed a landing page, trifold brochure, flyer, and rack card that franchise owners can use with families and referral partners.

Our a-ha moment: FirstLight’s biggest advantage was already in place. In interviews, people talked about “the nurse,” not clinical service lines, and what they valued most was the relationship. So we carried FirstLight’s relationship-first approach into clinical care. We also positioned home care and home health care as two equal ways in, so families can start wherever their needs are.

How it’s going

With the positioning, messaging, and toolkit in place, FirstLight has one clear, unified way to introduce clinical care across its franchise network. We continue as FirstLight’s partner on retainer across ongoing brand and marketing work.

Why it matters

Clinical credibility is what gets a home health brand referred. Trust is what keeps families choosing it. By rooting clinical care in the relationships FirstLight is known for, we gave franchise owners a brand built to earn both, and one consistent story to tell in every market they serve.
