Luxury Brand Naming & Archetype Research Case Study — National Eye Care Company
Naming a luxury eye care concept with the consumers it's designed for
How it started
A national eye care company with hundreds of practices had built its reputation on access: convenient locations, trusted doctors, and eye care that fits into everyday life. Leadership saw an opportunity above that, in a luxury concept for customers who want eye care and eyewear to feel as considered as the rest of their lives.
The new brand needed a name that could do two jobs at once. It had to signal luxury on its own, credibly and immediately, while sitting comfortably alongside a parent brand known for accessibility. It also had to enter a luxury category crowded with heritage fashion houses, boutique opticians, and direct-to-consumer players, most of them sounding alike.
The company brought in Program 11 to map the competitive field, develop a name built for that audience, and test it with the people who'd actually walk through the door.
What we did
Program 11 led a research-driven naming initiative that grounded every creative decision in competitive analysis and consumer data:
Competitive Archetype Analysis: Mapped the luxury eyewear and eye care landscape with our competitive archetypes methodology, supported by an AI-assisted analysis tool we built for this project. We sorted competitors into distinct brand archetypes, showing which territories were crowded and where a new brand could stand apart.
Naming Strategy & Development: Built naming criteria from the archetype findings and the concept's intended experience, then developed candidate names across several creative territories. Each candidate was screened for competitive overlap, pronunciation, and fit with the parent brand.
Quantitative Name Validation: Fielded a naming survey with more than 200 verified luxury consumers, testing the finalist names for appeal, associations, perceived price point, and fit with a premium eye care experience. Two names rose clearly above the field, giving leadership a data-backed choice.
Executive Decision Support: Brought the findings to the CEO and leadership team with a clear recommendation, so the final decision came down to strategy and conviction.
How it’s going
The company chose its name (actually, our favorite candidate, too!) with confidence that luxury consumers read it the way leadership intended: premium, distinctive, and at home among the brands it will compete with.
Program 11 continues as the company's brand partner, with visual identity and brand design for the new concept beginning in 2027.
