Financial Research and Strategy Case Study – J.P. Morgan

Reaching the next generation of wealth with J.P. Morgan

How it started

By 2030, an estimated $15 trillion in wealth will transition to Gen X and Millennial heirs. J.P. Morgan knew that winning this market required winning over the gatekeepers: independent asset managers, wealth advisors, and family offices.

These external asset managers don't work for J.P. Morgan — they independently evaluate platforms and recommend financial strategies to their clients. To earn their recommendation, J.P. Morgan needed to stand out to these third-party managers, equipping them with the insights required to advise a new generation of clients who demand hands-on portfolio involvement and values-aligned investing.

What we did

To understand what both independent managers and their end-clients actually needed, we went straight to the source. We recruited and conducted a series of focus groups with young tech founders, family office inheritors, and impact-driven entrepreneurs.

The A-Ha Moment: The research revealed a key disconnect. Next Gen clients actively resist standard marketing and screen fatigue, while independent asset managers struggle to find high-caliber, non-salesy content that speaks to younger wealth creators, self-made founders, and next-generation investors.

The strategy became clear: Share Insights, Don't Sell.

Instead of pushing investment products, we created a tangible, premium publication designed for J.P. Morgan to distribute to independent asset managers. This publication served as an intellectual toolkit, giving external managers deep-dive analysis on sustainable investing, founder strategies, and legacy planning that they could directly share with their prospective Next Gen clients.

How it’s going

By equipping independent asset managers with a high-caliber piece of thought leadership, J.P. Morgan shifted its institutional outreach from standard fund pitches to genuine educational partnerships. The publication bridges the gap between traditional private banking and the impact-driven mindset of modern investors — giving J.P. Morgan a powerful tool to earn the trust and endorsement of third-party advisors.

To maximize long-term ROI, we built the program for omnichannel reach and ongoing adaptation. We established performance tracking loops — measuring advisor feedback, reader engagement, and cross-platform traction — to ensure the editorial roadmap continuously evolves alongside the market.
